E85 safe to run in stock BBC?

I all saw e85 for 275 a gallon today and was wondering if it was safe to run in the boat? Are there any advantages to running it? Will it have any negative effects?  Any input would be great. A buck a gallon cheaper would enable me to buy more beer lol

You have to run an e85 carburetor. There are a lot of differences between the two. Jetting is a lot different for instance.

No it's not unless you are setup to run it. All the jetting needs to be setup for E85. You need to know if you fuel system can handle the need for 40% more fuel. If you run it without these changes you will lean it out.  Melt down

Thought I read you get a little bit more HP but you burn through it 30% faster.  Soon as I read that last part I said "I'm OUT"!!!

There is more to it than that.

The reasons you can make more power is because of the higher octane allowing much higher compression ratios.  The fuel itself does not make more power, it makes much less, the is approximately an 18% difference in the amount of energy per pound.

It will also tear up standard gasoline gaskets and hoses.

I run e85 on all my motors it's no big deal to switch over if u got a good carb guy it ends up using about 17% more fuel than gasoline but it's cheap about 1.95 a gallon by me motors run cooler theirs no detonating all my dyno pulls have seen a few more hp but probably because you can get more aggressive with timing I even use it on two of my motors with nitrous.. but it's like everything else you gotta  figure it out to make it work..

my Tahoe can use e85. I put e85 at the chevron in calimesa and my Tahoe started miss firing on the way to the river after I filled up with it. I got like 4 engine codes now lol.

. Drain your fuel system every trip stuff loves water. Test all the fuel you buy. A lot to it sounds easy but not so much. I have a few friends running it. Just use caution and it will work for you long as you don't get lazy.

Their is additives to make it not pull water ... it's super easy test e85 also I don't know I can't afford 15 or 20 bucks a gallon for race fuel so it's worth the extra effort...

. Your correct just a lot of work. That's where the melt downs come in guys skip a step. I have seen it happen I'm not sure how much your motor was but I will pay the piper it's cheap insurance. 50 bucks extra a trip and I have way more tune ability.

i run it in my truck all the time. I also fill up at the Chevron in Calimesa. Filled up yesterday  :thumbup:

I have not had an issue, but I also personally wouldnt run it in the boat. Because i dont want to have to bring fuel with me

but in my truck, (2014 Silverado) it makes a huge difference in power. But also a huge difference in mileage lol

Ya it's a huge difference in power because your truck don't have to pull out timing to accommodate for the shit pump gas we have ..... it's amazing how you can feel the power difference!!!
