so what i thought was going to be an easy fix with a new cap is far from it. swapped out caps still no workie.

so i pull the cap off and turn the motor over by hand. to my suprise the rotar is not spining on the distributor. SHIT>... i pull the dizzy out and the gears look good. so i am guessing i broke the timing chain or spun the teeth off of one of the gears up front.

i have a set of timing gears sitting on my shelf in the shop. but i need to do a compression test to see if any of the valves got bent from me turning the motor and the cam not spinning. also on that same problem line the oil pump is driven by the same gears that spin the dizzy. so i have not been getting any oil up there. the good news is it never fired so the cylinders are probably ok.

if the motor has to come out some more horse power will be goin in. but i am hoping we can salvage the situation by putting some timing gears in and getting the timing set.

Sorry to hear all this Tony! I guess sometimes it's like THAT! 

I'd check with Enginedoctor before you buy an ebay engine though.    I have a feeling you'll save some green on a "to order" build of whats left of your engine, and probably pronto seein how much time he spends away from the shop these days  .

I've had some pretty good luck on buying already built motors, but sooner or later that luck will run out! Dave's building the new boats engines. Not messin around on this one. Not sure how I can even install them in this tall thing, but a guy down the street has a backhoe...........
