Gonna be a weird week....

My foreman is leaving our department in January....I am going in for an interview on Tuesday for the position, I was fairly happy with the way things were going, but I had to apply..... (can't complain about things being jacked up if you don't attempt to do something about it.)

I guess you could say "the problem" is, there are some tough decisions that need to made if I get the position (pretty fair chance I will)...

Back to being disliked for a while I guess $:-\$ ... We'll see what happens...To be updated later.

I'm already not liked much at my new store (Blew a gasket the second day when I saw that most departments underbought in inventory by as much as 25%). In the end they'll like me when they get their success sharing checks though!

I'm really not too concerned about having to "blow a gasket" so to speak, I do however have extremely high standards and our exiting foreman lets things ride as they stand...

There will be some culture shock that's for sure.

"Blowing Gaskets" is almost NEVER a good idea Glen. I stress the ALMOST. Sometimes, this one in particular, made sense and might apply.

Walking my new store, heading into Xmas, electrical dept, no Red and Green lightbulbs, almost out of tri-tap extenion cord adaptors, out of timers, remote control devices, tan extension cords, etc, etc and when I asked why I was told "corporate didn't send enough" .

THAT'S when the gasket started to blow. As I told the seasoned dept manager "You knew xmas was coming" "Yes" was his reply, "and they NEVER send you enough" "Yes", "and so if I look at your orders where and when am I going to see that you bulked up for this"........."not gonna find it" was the response. Gasket blew......."and now tell me why the fock you have been a dept manager for 6 years???"

I have EVEYONES attention now and I can be a nice guy again, lol.

Don't do it. Think long and hard before you take the position, I took on a position that I am basically unhappy in and I wish I could go back to just being a hand, but that ain't gonna happen.

I left a supervisory position to go to work here, they use "working foreman" so I should be cool...Thanks for looking out though...

Had what I will call the best interview I have ever had today...

It really opened my eyes as far as where the company is going and am very excited no matter who gets the job.

It's not actually a foreman position, it is a full on working supervisory deal. I am so amped!

As funny as it sounds, work is the one place I do not get stressed out unless there is a bunch of political crap going on I can't change or have control of....

We have been so busy over the last 9 months, I haven't had time to think about it. $:-\$

Good job Glen. I kind of got the same deal going on. I have been filling in for the supervisor since September and am in line for the job. But I'm siding with Skip. For me, it's alot more headache than it's worth. But since you did the job before, and you're excited about the company, Good Luck to you. Hopefully your company can keep out the politics and just get the job done.

I guess something I should share is that I am not getting any younger and am trying to look out for my health as far as knees, hands and back. I feel older every day and the 12 hour days and 60+ hour weeks are starting to really accelerate the wearing process...

The growth potential of our division is ludicrous and this company has profit sharing for the supervisors, so this could be good from all directions, at the same time this is not a job you could do for the money, you have to love it or it will kick your ass...

I just feel right now we will have some apprentices that turn out as journeyman and not had an exposure to much in the way of equipment and technologies, I want the guys replacing me to be the absolute best service technicians on the planet, after all, they will be the ones paying for my retirement.

It feels good to have guys come to me and thank me for being a it tough on them. We just hired one of my old guys yesterday.

Whether they realize it now or later, you're doing them and everyone else a favor by making them the best they can be. The culture shock may be tough for a while, but hopefully they'll come to appreciate your higher standards.
Everyone likes to receive a high standard of service but not everyone is willing, or able, to give it.

Good point about the health. A 12 hour day definetly takes a toll. Especially when on a ladder or your knees.

Did they tell you when they would expect to make the decision?

Sounds good glenn...and the sweet perk is extra $$$$ as long as the headache is worth it...as of right now i just enjoy being a hand...im always the last journeyman on the job...and on slow days im the only journeyman on the job...the rest are foremans....but i hope you get it!!!!
