I got a new motorcycle, well new to me :D
« on: February 20, 2008, 10:18:59 AM »
Unfortunately my father inlaw lost his home. :( While we were at his home cleaning out his garage I came a cross this nice little find. A 1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special with only 6,800 miles on it. :D Little gummed up in the carbs, but no dents, and all original. Best part the bike was free :D But I think my Tahiti may suffer a little, can't afford to dump money into both  :'(

Those bikes are animals. Back when I was still riding dirt bikes, my buddies would take the RD engines and put them in their 3 wheelers. Pretty fast bikes back then.

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

well it is now officially mine. I went to DMV did a ton of paper work because it fell off the system. Only thing left now is I have to bring it in for a vin verification. :D I have to pay an extra $30 a year though to keep my old blue and yellow plates. :( Because they fell off the system I had to register them as vanity plates or surrender them.

I'm a huge fan of all things RD....... I had a '77 RD400 cafe racer. Rear-sets, clubman bars and bar-end mirrors and a small quarter-fairing. It had Spec II pipes was bored 30-over and just falt out hauled ass. Here's a great website for all things Two-stroke.
www.motocarrera.com

They're not the cheapest but they do really nice work and are a wealth of knowledge. Keep it stock....... and it will only go up in value. That was the only year for the Daytona Special and it was the last year of availability here. The RZ350s were available but they were water-cooled and didn't come around til about 1983,,,,,,,, between those years would have to get creative to bring one over from Canada.

good luck and be careful. The power band on those things tends to be a little unpredictable and can get you in a world of trouble really fast.
