maybe not my best move???
« on: July 13, 2012, 08:02:49 PM »
well over the past couple of weeks i have thinking  (yah scares me too)  that my tahoe is getting old and while it is still in good shape i should get rid of it. so i am. well here where i my have made my mistake! i traded it for a dually. and well i guess im second guessing if it was smart.  i will post pics when i pick it up tomorrow you all can laugh if you want. hell my wife is kinda pissed about the whole thing. sorta. she is wondering how nice the dually is.

A dually? Is that really necessary and more practical than a comfy tahoe that does decent on gas...  For shame!

But if its bagged on 22's and painted to match your boat I will retract that statement.

Tahoe looks good but warning you the gas on that dully is going to blow ass compared to the Tahoe and ur not gonna like the extra can I'd stick to a crew cab specially if you have kiddos.

I had a extra cab truck with two kids ad man it was a pain in the ass and it was a 04 so all 4 doors opened but still not like it. U have a good truck with the Tahoe and why not just get a small travel trailer or even pop up tent trailer that has ac on it would be the same thing and the Tahoe would pull that just fine and more comfy for fam bam at the same time. You can probably get a super clean trailer for cheap right no with this economy ahit Insaw a 02 toy hauler super lite in the paper for 5g 18'

Get a dually
Cant pull the camp trailer and the boat at the same time.  :screwy:
CC Dually, Cabover camper and the boat ( or jeep, horse trailer, cycle trailer etc) .....at the same time
My '77  C30 dually (7.3 L) gets 16-17 empty, 12-13 w 12,000 lb 5'er. A tahoe wont touch that.
I own my fair share of crewcabs and duallys.

Thats all I got

I have a 97 crew cab dually. Always liked then and wanted one. Bought it for $3800 and have put $1500 in to it since december. Blew a tire and it blew my fender to shit. So a new one from GM is $800. I only use it to drop my boat in the water and Lowe's runs so I'm not to worried on gas. About 10-14 mpg and its a Vortec 5.7. Thought about getting a new truck but after my 07 NBS Sierra I can't justify $35,000 for a much as I'll use it.

ok so now i have a little dilemma  here i have to choose between 2 different duallys so help me out.  one is a 94 4x4 the other is a 96 2 wheel drive. both have 4 doors both are 1 ton both have 454 and both have about the same mileage.  now the 96 has paint issues on the roof and hood and on a door. but the body is clean no major dents and the interior clean.the 94 has a semi new paint but has a few dents and the tailgate is bent. interior is nice  at a little bit of a loss here i like both!  both have there own probs both have bonuses!  you guys tell me! come on give your opinions !

Go with the 96. All GM vehicles from the 80's/90's have shit paint issues. I they are close in condition and mileage then buy the newest one you can. At least that would be my logic.

Mine was stiff when working it back and forth on the trailer.
Once I got it on the water and under power, it was amazing!

My 97 has paint issues as well. Like he said the GM paint was problematic then. I barely drive mine so its dings and issues don't bother me as much. If you're wanting a dropped one go with the 2wd, if you want a 4x4 get that one.

That year ad body style dually look so nice dropped I've seen a few lifted but the lowered ones are what do it for me, I'd go with the 96 2wd since the interior is clean u can also throw a decent paint gob on it for 2g maybe less and make it look that much better.

I had this '97 truck for 3 years.  I LOVED it,...and hated it.  The truck is awesome, comfy, quiet, I had no complaints at all.  But, I only used it for dirt bike trips, home improvement stuff etc and it always needed something.  brakes, belt tensioner, shocks, trans pan leak, valve cover leaks, tires, alignment, always something.  I was not sorry to see it go.  I think the newer the better with these.  Beyond 100,000 miles be prepared to invest some work into it.  Also, I believe '96 and older had worse brakes and trans problems.  '97 and newer are way better.

My 97 was rode hard and put away wet. Disappointed in the chain if events that haven't only made it worse. I keep full coverage on it and leave the keys in it. Everything on them is expensive to fix.
