Where I live in vegas isnt a bad area, but im finding out its not too safe.
Here there are neighborhood style boxes where its one big mailbox with several small lock boxes for each resident. The 'outbound' mail slot has been blocked off from the inside. I asked the mailman why that is, and he said its due to people breaking into it.
So yesterday I walked out to check the mail and there was a big note on it saying the mailbox had been vandalized and a new one had been ordered and mail would not be delivered until it was replaced. I looked to the back access panel where the mailman access all the boxes, and someone had taken a crow bar to it.
Now I am on full alert....checkin out the window often and anytime i hear anything suspicious. I live here with my fiance and I work graveyard shifts....tonight is my first night back at work since the whole ordeal and im nervous as hell leaving her here alone. I talked to the lady across the street and she said someone had tried to break into her house when she was home alone a few months ago. Luckily the neighbor scared him off.
The neighborhood I live in has a major cross street that is home to a few nurserys where there are several illegals hanging out looking for day work. They often straggle down into the neighborhood going door to door asking for work. I dont even bother answering the door.
This didnt bother me at first, but as time has passed, I have seen cops out there with these illegals in handcuffs more times then i can count on both hands. I really commend them for cleaning up the streets.
I am also concerned about my boats and tools and stuff in the garage. You dont think about it, but theres thousands of dollars of parts, tools, etc in your garage....and theres not much other then a thin piece of sheet metal keeping people out. I am going to look into some security lighting and maybe some cameras.
I dont know, what do you guys think? am I letting this small event cause too much paranoia?
