Ok, so I didn't go and look at it as planned. Instead I went for a sewing 101 lesson at my good buddy's mother's alteration and dry cleaning shop. She's been a citizen for 35 years but doesn't speak English worth a damn so I didn't know wtf she was telling me. Helpful as hell though, her brother owns a sewing sweat shop of some sort and was a clearinghouse of info. He told me what I really need once I get acquainted with things is a dual feed walking foot.
As far as me wanting to make covers for my fenders and tires/wheels for climbing in n out without foot marks on the polished stainless, he said a standard homeowner machine with a #18 needle will suffice as I learn.. and my 92 yr old granny's got an old lacquered singer that she don't use no mo!
I'd also like to make a nose cover for the tip of the bow that will have some velcro straps for hanging onto my bow rails to protect the few square feet of gel and front upholstery from loading/unloading on the beach and folks jumping from the dock to boat. Glad previous owners were consciences about the gel and did not have kids to scratch it for them.
He said as far as the bimini, I'd be better hiring that out or letting him do it if I want it done now.
He said the Juki in the ad was more than likely retired and for a possible reason since its so cheap, but may be a stellar unit, just depends. He said the amount of indestructible paint on the base that wears off is a good indicator in most cases.
Kindly of him, he said he's got a similar model that I can have that works fine with a table but once I get near mastering granny's old Singer I would probably be ready for the real deal if I'm still gung-ho on it, and he'd be glad to provide the Korean connection. They gave me some tough, white and blue thread and some needles that will likely fit the machine I have access to.
Then they surprised me and ordered me a Korean lunch
I finished the little fishies with a forced smile, but swear to hell I'm supplying In n Out the next time we all chat and translate needle and thread.
