The SCSC Needs our Help!
« on: August 28, 2007, 01:11:17 PM »
Today I was approached by the Southern California Speedboat Club to see if we, the site, can help them out bring their rescue boat back to a 100% turnkey state.

The rescue boat was plagued with several problems at the Long Beach Spring Nationals and if any of you noticed, the boat barely got on a plane when it was running. The owner of the boat, Huey, and Terry Valore should be getting back to me shortly as to what specificly the boat needs in order to get it running in tip top shape. It has been said that the pump possibly needs to be rebuilt.

So what I am asking of you guys is a weekend of your time. The next race is at Lake Ming in Bakersfield, CA on October 6th and 7th. That leaves us 4 weekends (excluding this weekend) to do this. If we can get a crew of knowledgeable people together and just go over this boat, we should be good to go. I can supply beverages and bbq to feed you guys.

Also, I can take donations from this site as well as racers from other classes on other sites since this project benifits everyone. This will help cover the offset of cost for parts. Leftover funds will be given to the owner of the boat to provide money for future repairs as needed.

Let me know what you guys think and what will be a good weekend to do this.

What make engine is in that thing? I got some spare 460 parts laying around.

Taco'd "a person or people that show up with one lake lice and a family of 50 and cram 3 people at a time on it with no disregard to boating rules or ethics. Usualy crap in toilets and throw shit paper in trash cans. Hang out at the boat ramp like its a swimming hole. Have zero insurance on anything they own and dont give two shits less about your property."

Exchange a few emails with the owner of the boat, Huey. He said he might be taking it to elsinore this weekend to float it while he replaces the bunks and while its in the water, he will see what it needs. I will also get more info at tomorrow nights meeting.

If it's a Chevrolet, I have some parts that maybe it will need. Act quick on those as they are going to go on eBay.

I also have a complete 12JC with an aluminum "A" in it, fairly fresh rebuild on it (RTR), that I could donate (as long as the parts go to the recovery rig and I get any unused pump/BBC parts back that my parts replaced).

Just a little update...

Looks like its going to be the weekend of the 15th and 16th (Next Weekend). The boat is being used for a waterski race this weekend at Mead and the guy using it use to race squirters, so hes going to put it in the water and give it a good onceover and let us know what it needs. I need to also contact Terry Valore and get his side of the story on what it needs since he spent some quality time with it at Long Beach.

Again, I will supply burgers/dogs for the grill to stuff your faces as i work you guys like some good cheap labor.

more later...

Be happy to drive down for some burgers, maybe bring someone from a notable pump shop. I think Brad knows what I mean.

I'm not going to make it up there but I've been sitting on these parts that I have waiting to hear what this rescue boat needs. This thread reading like people are going to show up with elbow grease and parts and just wing it, is that the case?

No. At this point, as stated, we have yet to find out exactly what it needs. I am waiting on a call back any second to work on getting the boat on possibly Monday so I can get a first hand assessment and a report of how it did at the Mead Water Ski event. Then start building a list of parts we need. THEN at that point I will start putting out requests for parts/donations to get this job done.

I just got off the phone with Terry Valore. I guess things are slow and he has time to take the boat to work on it and Jim Brock has some of the parts it will need. Terry will let me know if he needs parts donated from you guys to get it running. So at this point, no need to worry about coming down to help out.

Thanks to everyone who made the kind gestures to come help!
