Just got my hands on a 1998 454 going to switch it over to carbureted not sure of the intake and what the best cam is

If its a Gen VI (6), It should be a roller cam, or at least set up for a GM factory roller cam, that's the best cam. (maybe not the best profile)
Probably peanut port heads, but should be able to pull ~4600-4800 rpm with an 'A' impeller in a Berk on a mostly stock 454.
Heads, intake & carb, exhaust system, comp. ratio, among other things will factor in on cam choice, or use a dart board.
