Ran one in my ford for 3 years with zero issues. I know people that have been running them for years, however don't personally know any one run it in an olds. Just my $0.02.

got her fired up. now here's a stupid question. do i need to keep the ballast resistor? I left it in there because I thought i needed it but I was under the impression that by going this way I would be able to get rid of it and get full voltage to the coil.

The paper that came with the coil said that with a 1.5ohm coil (which I have) that I am to remove the resistor. I just don't want to mess anything up.

Just an honest question. Do you know what the resistor is for?

Many do not.

If the instruction sheet says you can delete it,  I say your fine.that being said, if you still have the points plate, throw it in the toolbox and simply bypass the resistor,  be a snap the swap back to points potentially saving the vacation in case of a failure.

What does it do? I thought it limits the voltage to the coil.

I do have the points that came it, it's brand new as well as the coil too. I'll keep them in the tool bag in the boat.

So why do you need to limit the voltage to the coil? Is it not a12 volt coil?

So think about this.

Here is a scenario. You are sitting in the boat, car,  whatever.  You turn on the ignition key and leave it on with the engine not running. The points are closed. What's happening?

There is 12 volts going to the positive side of the coil,  the other side is grounded.

The coil is filled with oil and literally had a coil of wire sitting in it. This wire is heating up because of the wattage being consumed. Until. ... Boom!  It either explodes or catches fire.

The resistor eats up that wattage in this case. It protects the coil from this danger.

That's virtually it.

Did a little bit of polishing. I have a lot to do now. Not a fan of shiny stuff but I guess since it's there I may as well make it look decent.

Also helped Johnny make some covers for this holes in his hull where the thru transom exhaust was. And by help I mean moral support and I shined this one up before I took the pic. Haha.

What did you use to polish up your velocity stacks? Are they chromed?

Mine are a dull aluminum and the mothers I use for the cast alum. scratches the finish. Trying to get them cleaned up.

My neighbor has a bench grinder with some polishing wheels on it. He has these green bars that you put polish onto the wheels and it works pretty damn good. Did my tunnel ram with it and my friend did his headers too. He is a metal fabricator for boats and builds towers and rod holders. He has to polish all the aluminum and stainless and that's what he uses so I just go with it.

Picking up my back seat from upholstery tonight. Been wanting it for some time now need to block the engine from my 2 year old and a place for her to pass out on .thanks 78Bahner for the wood work  and socal upholstery for wrapping it. Sure is going to be nice to finally put a done stamp on my boat  :beer:For now

Put my new back seat in and drank a few beers in the boat while looking at the engine  while I post this.

  Thanks dmacattack been a long time coming been running two seats for a while now. now I can call the interior done. Pretty happy with the way it turned out since it was done by different upholstery shop from the fronts.

Tried to clean the boat up for this weekend. Not the best but it's 10 times better than it was. We'll be on the road first thing in the morning.
