Went out for a shakedown with the oil cooler yesterday. First problem was I couldn't get the temp above 190. And it's plumbed to the dump side. Second thing was the oil pressure doin weird shit. The higher the rpms the more the pressure would drop. Idle would be about 60 and wot at 5100 was 40psi. Probably gonna take it off anyways but does anyone know why my pressure would jump around like that?

I remember there being a little pressure bypass ball and spring in the sand which adapter but I was told by the original owner that the filter house had the bypass plugged so I didn't worry about it

You sound to have two problems.

First, the oil level sounds high and your getting all foamy.

Second, what was the water temp? You will need to have a small bypass around the oil cooler with a gate valve. It's piped correctly, the oil should only be "warm" when the engine runs full tilt for several minutes.

I've dropped 3 quarts already since u mentioned that to me a year ago. It didn't do this before the cooler.

Water temp was probably 60-65 not much cooler than normal summertime river temp.

It's really like a valve opens up and just drops pressure. I'm probably gunna just get rid of it I couldn't even get the temp up enough to burn off moisture

Yup I filled it before plumbing it. Oil level shows right where it should on the dipstick.

Why the HV pump? Once the system is primed, the flow would remain the same, as established by the engine clearances.

To compensate for the pressure drop off the cooler and additional lines.

There was a great analysis ( http://mechdb.com/index.php/Oil_filter_analysis) where someone cut up and measured almost every brand of filter. It seems to no longer be up (or not viewable on my cellphone). It was also mirrored on several other sites. Of course I can't find it right now. This study fell just short of the K&N filters the last time I looked.

Anyway, take apart a few filters and draw your own conclusions. It is quite eye opening to see what is actually inside.

If anyone has a link to this or a similar study, please post a link.

Did last 15ft. And the damn thing just about crushed me sawhorses just gave way thank God my neighbor heard me screaming. As I was balancing it on the two floor jacks I had for safeties. Catlike reflexes thank out I still got them. Lol
