Whats uh...the deal with HotBoat?
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:06:13 AM »
I renewed my subscription to it. Then I recieved my first copy in 08 and it totally sucks balls! There is no jet boat/v-drive section anymore? Some one should start a low freeboard magazine. Because alot of us out here still like boating but with out a six figure boat to pay off!
And whats up with there website. I caught rumor that they kicked alot of people off. Anybody know the scoop? Thanks.

Nate

I don't think there's a big enough demand for it. There are tons of different hot rod mags out there for a reason - $$$. Boating, especially gas guzzling jet boats, not so many as compared to hot rods, gardens, wanabe chefs, etc...

actually we have talked about it ??? and the one major road block we cant get around is the advertisers that would basically be paying for it. now think how many are there? because subscriptions at what 5.00 each then you have to pay postage printing and so on....... so the next best thing is a calander (hmmm) only need 12 pics then, not 12 issues. well just sharing a little of what we have talked about.

You would think that within the gallery there should be plenty of pictures to choose from to make the calander. I would supose that you just have to get permission to priint from the picture owner. Butt....if the picture has already been posted does that make it property of SCJB? Hmmm ???

Think of how awesome it would be though...there is still a huge supply and demand for this stuff...look at all of us gurus you got all of these muscle car mags from the muscle era...same as jet boats we are keeping something alive here...i know i have spents hours on the computer looking for this stuff and wanting to know more....hence why i am here...i look at alot of the tech articles to learn i never have anything to say in them because i dont know much, but i am all for it i think we can put some heads together here and start something...but it is brads call, plus it would be sweet to let old rigger have a section...

As bitchin' as it would be, and it would be bitchin', unless Brad has some really deep pockets to back him, or he can live with ZERO income for a couple of years, it's a financial fucking nightmare, you can ask my good friend Scott who started Car Kulture DeLuxe, and now does Traditional Rod & Kustom Illustrated. The distributors tell you how many mags they'll buy, and what they'll pay, oh yeah, it's all on consignment and you DON'T get you unsold copies back either. Mags make money from big money advertisers, if you don't have big money buyin' ad space, you're loosing money, it's as simple as that. I'd be more than happy to help Brad or anyone else should the opportunity come up.

How many big money companies are there in our industry that will front enough money to support this mag?

Let's see other than all the boat makers that don't make our boats anymore, um, I'd have to say none. Rex, CP, JBP, they might all buy ads, but their ads would not cover the costs, it's a damn shame really, Brad check your PMs.
