Topock gorge is one of the the most beautiful section of the rivers. Kinda like the north end of Parker times 10, and that part of Parker is very pretty. It's a must see. There is a reason it's protected. Going up river not nearly as scenic. Won't have any problems with shallow areas in Needles. North of Needles towards Bullhead is where it gets shallower. However, you will see a lot of big boats in Needles. Even bigger than Parker. A lot of them coming up from Havasu going to Pirates Cove. The water is noticeably colder in Needles than Parker. I've seen them setup a sobriety checkpoint by the bridge just north of Pirates Cove. Probably too early in the season for that but you may want to ask around if you plan a having a beer or two. They got you by the balls for on the water fueling at Pirates Cove. It's real expensive, because they are the only one in Needles that I know of.

I have heard about the no wake zone, is it right there at Golden Shores and the bridges? How long is it?
Going south, I think the biggest thing you'd have to look out for is the big boats, hopefully it won't be too crowded.
There's a big sandbar at the bend everyone hangs out at.
If you go past the gorge, there are some sandbars to keep eye out for as you come out of the canyon. Just read the river and you'll be OK.
If you get a chance, Havasu is pretty cool and idling through the channel and under the bridge is awesome.
Needles has some nice little beaches and that's usually were some of the old v-drives like to hang out.
And like the guys said, the water is cold.
