Bought the boat this past summer and have yet to grease the bearing buddies. Don't know what kind of grease goes in? It's green, and I'm gonna guess its similar to the green tube of grease I was given by mcclure to grease the pump bearing... Would I be correct in that assumption or should I call previous owner and get the skinny on it before I leave to Parker?

In all honesty, color don't mean a damn thing..........

I recommend two different lubes that will both mix fairly well with virtually anything....

Aqualube   http://www.aqualubeky.com/grease.html   , this sticky messy shit will mix, but hope and pray you never have a Buddy or a seal take a poop, you be cleaning that crap up for a month...

Any NLGI 2 grease using lithium as a base. The synthetic stuff seems be mix with anything...I only know this from using tons of different greases and word of mouth (nothing from a lab)...

It's sort of like engine oil. Your better off putting the wrong oil in than nothing at all.... You should really be replacing the grease seals and cleaning and inspecting the bearings for wear every couple of years. Having lost a wheel bearing in the middle of BFE at three in the morning is all that had to happen for me to do it at the beginning of each season.

I used to grease the hubs EVERY trip from Big Bear to the river, and kept an eye on hub temps, never had a bearing failure. Now, being 18 miles from the river, its twice a year when going to willow beach. Ratchet strap or a block of wood is always a good idea.

when we leave for the lake we always stop at a grocery store off the 10 and i ALWAYS feel the hubs to make sure before i start driving out in the middle of nowhere.

Good point, I'm sure my disc brakes get the hubs hotter than most.

Yeah I've had Exxon Valdez happen all over the side of my old boat and every other car on the fwy once before. I only pump grease til I see the spring loaded cap start to move. The excess does nothing anyway.
