I have used studded tires, they had a .25" steel stud embedded in the tire every inch or so.  Look at :07, the tires look like a porcupine...

Different studs, lol, they use the ones used on the old Ice Track motorcycle races. Dunno if anyone ever saw those. Real old school stuff. Look like nails!!
