GAWnCA Vs oldrigger - 700HP motor for $1500

Beginning notes to this thread

This thread was split off from another thread located HERE. Please keep the other thread on topic and continue the discussion here. No personal attacks will be allowed. Keep it friendly and post your facts.

You just HATE it when someone shows the real history, don't you.  How about showing the guys history that you mentioned.  With all due respect, how is it that Miller held all the speed records if these guys you mention are so world renowned?  They may have been there in the beginning but who's name shines?

Who's name shines????
What are you talking about, you have heard of Hallett boats haven't you? You glean one little fact about one little buider and then claim to know the REAL history, give me a break. It would only go to figure that you don't know about Wickens Whirlwind and it's Aqua Craft connection.

Before you go shooting your mouth off again do your home work. Better yet, go build your $1500, 700hp big block that you claim you can build and finally, please show us your dyno results.

I don't like to respond to pms much, so I'll post your PM here to give you answer...

"Why don't you take your happy ass back to LLB where you can pass yourself off as knowing something.  Sorry, I'm $500 over budget and have my 700 HP.  What the hell do you have?  Nothing but pure BULL SHIT!  I don't see a damn thing you've accomplished except blowing smoke up someone's ass!"

I don't believe you can do 700hp for $2000 starting with a junk yard block like you said. Prove it.

GAWnCA,

I'm not trying to scold you or humilate you, but I believe you are in the wrong here. oldrigger has been around these boats and knows them well. His posts are priceless to people like me who love to hear about the history. In my book, he has a lot that none of us have....the stories he has are worth more then a $2k motor to me.

I dont know the history of this whole 700hp motor for $1500 story, but im curious...

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but can you prove that you have done it? even for $2,000

I want one! I've got plenty of used parts to pick from (blocks, cranks, two different sets of the less than 8 pistons, two sets of heads, etc... ). Flock it, I'll even go to a... uhg... a Ford if I have to.  :'(

I dig Old Rigger's posts even though he's usually correcting me (rightfully so  >:(  :D ).

I also liked GAWnCA's post on Miller boats and the link in that post. Very cool sh!t.  ;)

One thing is for sure, now I've finaly seen what it looks like on the internet when somebody goes off/takes something the wrong way. It's usually me who gets all fired up for the wrong reasons (IMO).  ;D  Damn it only took several months to see it too.  :-\   ;D

GAWnCA,

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but can you prove that you have done it? even for $2,000

No he can't prove it and he's had plenty of time to do so.

Here's what happened, soon after gawnca joined over on Cas's laid back boaters site he claimed in a post that he could take a junk yard long block big block, any brand big block, BBC-BBF or Mopar and for another 1500 bucks over the cost of the junkyard big block he could build an engine that made 700 hp. He listed some times and speeds that he's run in the 1/4 mile in a car using this mystery formula for his engine builds. I called him on it, told him I don't believe it could be done and asked to see his dyno slip proving this claim that he had already done it. No response except for this pm I got from him on that board...

gawnca: "I took this off line since you want to be so damn childish.  I did get 650 HP for $1800.00 though.  Only 50 HP short and a $100 over budget and I didn't shop at all for bargains.  So stick it in your ear."

(I love it how a member can grow a set of balls when sending a PM.)

So after I got the pm on LBBB I again asked him to show us how to get the now reduced and lower 650hp from the revised amount of $1800, because I don't believe it can be done unless he's got a garage full of parts stashed away. But this isn't the case here, he claimed that he could do it by using new parts and not shopping for bargians. I asked him to show us anything, reciepts, a parts list, a build list, anything, but all he did was to childishly go back and delete all his posts from that site and came running over to this site.  ::)

And, we're still waiting. Don't hold your breath.

We know it, i just priced a intake for my new motor. $409.00 and that dont include the new rings i need and bearings and oil pump and on and on. i do have all my maching work done and im still looking at a good $2,000 for a motor that puts out only 400 horsie's.

Maybe he got it after christmas on a half off sale, who know's ;D

But i think the point has been made.

old rigger, do you have anymore info on that fantasy im doing? Like max hull speed, i got questions for ya man ;D

that's one way but he also said the engine will run 9's and 10's all day long.  I'm thinking a 500 shot will get the 700 hp on a junk yard engine for about 3 seconds then go kaboom.

Greg,
I tried explaining to you about oldrigger's experience via pm's quite awhile ago and apparently you just didn't want to believe it.  OR lived and literally breathed these boats for many years and has hands on experience building them with a couple of the best in the business.  I'm hoping that you will finally get it.

I'm not going to say its not possible to build 700hp for $2000.  I am going to say that the person to do it would have to be able to purchase parts at WD pricing, and perform most machine work and assembly himself at no cost.

This is NOT realistic for most people.

Any machine shop with any experience in building performance engines get a premium for the knowlege on how to do it right (just about any moron can assemble and engine and get to run).

The other problem with trying to stay within a limited budget is that you may go for the best deal for those "made in China" components and find that you have to pull it down two more times to get a good one, there went your $2000 build because you now spent another weekend rebuilding.

Just my .02

He has to be talking about buying one of those cheap stroker kits on ebay and a carb and doing all the machine work himself.
