Well here we go, another law that protects us from ourselfs.

Tomorrow (5/18/2009) They are going to be out writing tickets for the new (BS) law.

Oh BTW, the state neglected to say that the reason why they passed the law is because the state gets $5,000,000 more a year from the Feds!

i thought the seatbelt law was nation wide

but anyways you are looking at this law in the wrong way...

yes, seat belts save lives, but they also prevent serious injury from small impacts.....think about all the people who cant afford medical insurance...

who pays for their hospital visits, trips to the ER, helicopter ride, etc? we do.

yeah, its a law protecting the stupids from killing themselves, but also, it will help keep taxes, medical costs, insurance rates, etc in check.

The way I look at it is like this....

If I dont want to wear a seatbelt, helmet, condom or anythingelse its on me. Pass laws against me not paying my medical bills not me wearing safety equipment.

OC, we will never, ever see eye to eye on this one, the seat belt law in Cali is one of the best things they have ever done.

I drive approx. 40k mile a year, I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time, as does anyone in a car I drive.

It is not put in place to take care of the driver, but all occupants of the vehicle, how many times have you seen a little kid (like 4-5 YO) standing on the rear seat of their dumbass parents station wagon, that's who the law protects...

I actually agree with the part about the kids. And for the record, I wear my seat belt. I just think that if you are over 18 you are on your own in the stupid dept.

10-4 on that, in the words of Ron White " You can't fix stupid!"

The issue is, it's supposed to make you "think", you would be amazed how many people I know that have actually had to get into a wreck before they start wearing seatbelts, this is just one more reason to buckle up. Just my take.

I still agree with the passing of the law.

I agree because and here is why. If noone wore seatbelts then the accidents could potentially be worse, as stated before and our vehicle insurance (which I think is a complete scam!!!) would be through the roof because of more bodily damage in an accident.

Thats the way I look at it. And if you dont wear a helmet on a bike you are a complete moron and should not be allowed to breed and make more morons.

I never wore a seatbelt till 1994 , when i was pulled over in Laughlin and cited for no seatbelt.....

Ever since that day i have worn my seatbelt, and feel much better now that i do.... Am i getting old or did i grow up a bit

The younger generation thinks it COOL to not wear seatbelts, and unfortunatly some pay dearly for it...

Any body ever get that e-mail about how it was, like we used to drink pop out of the bottle drink water out of the hose and never knew anyone who died from it, We used to ride in the bac of the truck, if you do it now they confiscate the truck turn the kids over to CPS and send you to counceling for the rest of you life after you get out of jail? Our insurance skyrocketed when the Gov made it mandatory. Scam, you bet. Kick backs, you bet. We have to wear helmets on our bikes when it's 115* out side cuz some A-hole sold a 180 MPH crotch rocket to a 16 yr old son of a senator who went out and T-boned a cadilac.

Having a racing back ground, seat belts are standard operating procedure!

As for helmets, I feel that it is a good idea to wear a helmet at all times. I don't think the minimal brain buckets that are available should qualify as a helmets. My former next door neighbor (older biker) had gone down on his Harley with one of those little helmets and broke his face and junked his brain enough that he is now in an assisted living facility because he can't take care of himself. The worst part is I know he owned a full face helmet that would have saved his way of life!

My sister works for a motorcycle supply store, mostly Harley type stuff. The badboys always go in there looking to get a helmet andthey all want one of those worthless "scull caps" which IMO you might as well be wearing a condom

, She trys to talk them into a touring type helmet, a guy came into the store last year and gave her a hug and told her that she saved his life. He was riding his Road King in a rural area on a Sunday and came around a corner where a little import car came around in his lane clipping the left side of the bike, he flew off the bike and into two walnut trees. He didn't walk away, but there were no head injuries, the helmet was destroyed, but intact.

BTW, she said it was a Simpson Touring pro with the interchangible inserts for comfort, like a $580 hat.

I have lost several freinds to motorcycle helmet and seat belt issues, I'm not willing to put my life on the line to look like an idiot..check that, cool... $:-\$

My whole family depends on me making it home...

Shit happens, "LET THOSE WHO RIDE DECIDE" I putt along IPOD on shirt off out in the country or the desert, 50-60 MPH with racing background. Youger days have been run off the freeway into the dirt by a Van at about 90-100, that background saved my ass. When I'm cruising the scenic drive in the convertable Corvette fuc the belts, racing sure, off roading sure, travleing sure.

anyway im really bad about my seat belt i wont lie...im terrible...mentioning all my friends who have died with or without seatbelts on ill give myself an f on wearing my belt...its not intentional or i dont do it cause im a rebel...i just hop in my truck n go...however when im on my dirtbike you can bet your ass all my gear is on! on my birthday last year i took a hard spill and am 100% confident my helmet saved my life...i saved that helmet...in fact i dented the inner liner of the helmet and was dizzy for quite a while after...honestly i think its the drivers decision! kids nothing pisses me off more then seeing them bouncing all over a backseat...another law that should be passed is all these people driving around with their dogs in their laps...are you kidding me? we have no cell phone laws, but you can have your puppy bouncing around on your lap?

i know most people either hate them or love them. but i have to agree that they are worth it. now i hate being told what to do as do most people but i think this is one time i will agree. i had a cousin who was traveling down a dirt road and a deer ran out in front of him and totalled his car. now he was hurt somewhat but was able to walk away due to wearing his seat belt.
my boss`s daughter was taking her daughter to school because they missed the bus. she was on the freeway and lost control of the vehicle. she wasn`t wearing her seat belt but her daughter was. she was thrown out of the truck as it rolled and landed on top of her. needless to say she didn`t walk away from that at all. she was only 28 yrs old. her daughter came through it with nothing but some cuts and bruises.
now i do wear mine all the time. i look at it this way... it might save my life one day but why the hell should i give the freaking city,state,whatever my money for not wearing it. so i guess my rant is over and i can say i believe we all have a right to our own opinion.

My cousins son was riding his quad w/ his helmet on which I agree is the time to wear it. He went up a road into the woods on the hill he was born and raised on. While he was gone BLM stretched a cable accross the road/ when he hit the cable it grabed his helmet and ripped his head off and viserated (sp) him, pulled a bunch of guts out w/ it. His brother was right behind him and saw it all. Dont get me wrong, I like to ride w/o a lid, w/ a little lid and with a full face bucket, I've taken alot of shit over the fullface on a Harley but i dont care. I just dont dig a cocky twenty year old telling me when and were to wear what, know what ah mean?

Nearly forty years ago I was taking Drivers Ed at the local public high school, the "instructor" was one of the football coaches. If you placed the key in the ignition before putting on your lap belt you could expect a ham sized fist to the side of the head. Only took two times and I was scarred for life. Still can't start the car without buckling up first.

So last week or so theres this Las Vegas Metro officer reporting to a BS 911 call by a teenager. So Early evening one night he's rolling to the call, No Lights, No Sirens and 109 miles an hour.

Then you have th innocent guy driving his truck home with a .03 BAC. Gets smacked by the cop. He lived

Cop had no seatbelt on. He died!

Question is, How can they enforce the laws they arent willing to adbide by themselves?

And not just the seatbelt thing, but 109 MPH on a city street with a bunch of innocent people on them and no lights and sirens on!

I have called in to the police and bitched about officers speeding (responding or not) without lights or sirens. I had been told (correct or not, I don't know) that if an officer does not have at lease one form of alert operating he should be following the traffic laws (not likely imo

).

In my opinion the guy that got hit should get totally reimbursed for his vehicle, wages lost and all the other stuff that goes along with an accident of that magnatude. But I sure it will turn into a long drawn out legal battle that the only winners will be the lawyers

Oh, the white guy was in jail for three or four days, still has charges against him. They had two cops gaurding the spot the "officer" was killed till the day of the funeral. The funeral cost 56,000 not including police vehicles and personel. His illegitament daughter gets 310,000 and a full ride to college including housing. The city gets it's ASS sued off and we get to pay for it. The cop was a two year rookie going 109 no lights and siren, no seat belts. They knew the night of the accident the other driver was well below the legal limit. THere was another cop following and swore up and down they were "code three". On an interview with the mother of the dirl who called they told the girl the officer was killed responding to her (false) call and she replied, "did you eat my doughnut, are there any doughnuts left" turned and walked away. Some fucd up shit huh?
