Just thought I would start a post about what I've been up to lately.
So, I need to refinance my home. In order to do that, I needed a new roof.
Get some quotes, even got one from a close friend who is a roofing contactor. Holy crap.
So, lowest bid, in excess of $9,500, without extras/hidden damage.
Decided to do it myself. Literally myself. What a moron.
So after replacing about 30% of the sheeting, ridge beams, facia boards, straightening out about 20 rafters, custom gutters, dry rot repairs, flashing bla bla bla.. $6k and about a month. Done deal.
Take a week to heal, sleeping on the couch, hear water dripping in the kitchen, can't figure it out. Turns out, dishwasher has a leak under the pump, little cracked plastic piece.. Hmmm. Take dishwasher out, remove floor, still hear water dripping WTF?
Found out the water line was leaking inside the door of the refrigerator. Damn.
Subfloor soaking wet, enough to rust the nails.
Still hear water leaking. Find out that the drain lines are all broken to hell. No winning here. Shit.
So the house is 40 years old, galvanized steel pipe. Find nearly thirty pinhole size leaks.
Repipe to copper, everything, repair all the drains, new subfloor in the kitchen, after squaring up the floor joists (high in the middle by 3/8"), had to tear out the oven, the cabinets (which were wet) drywall 12" up from the floor. .
Holy crap.
Now I'm installing the tile, have to build new cabinet boxes, can't afford new countertops, so those are blocked up.
I'm tired, out of money and have not had a weekend in three months.
Once I refinance, my mortgage will literally be cut in half.
So there is light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope is not a train. Lol
Not trying to be a downer, just needed to vent.
