Wtb small oil cooler (455)

Need to get the oil temps
Down looking for a smaller cooler. I know there's different styles and im not even quite sure what I want to go with. Those Olson style setups look pretty trick with the oil filter on them. Also I guess I need some sort of oil filter relocation kit. It's going on a 455.

I have an inline oil cooler, about 10" long. Used on Mercruiser for cooling p/s fluid. I also have an oil relocator setup with all the hoses.

Yes I would like to see some pics also. Are the oil and water inlets threaded? And the oil filter setup will work on a bbo?

Here are some pics...

Water lines are not threaded, oil lines are...

Oil filter set up has one side that threads to factory housing, the other side can be mounted anywhere with the filter.

I also have a rare nicson oil filter relocator...brings the filter out from under the engine to in front of the bell housing

I have many of the remote oil filter set ups for those interested, although I only have one oil cooler.

What could be causing my oil to get so hot? Maybe I have more problems than needing a oil cooler. It got as hot as 280-290 last weekend. I could keep it at 260-270 if I stuck around 3000-3500 rpm and once I idle,for a few min down to 190. Doesn't seem to be lean. The two middle cylinders look leaner according to the plugs. 12 qrt pan vr1straight 50

Ya it does had the motor out over winter everything looked good. And ya gauge should be correct its a brand new auto meter and autometer sender. And it's in a bung i welded in the bottom of the oil pan. Water temp is a tad over 120 while cruising and will bump up to 140 while idling until the oil cools down. Runs awesome aside from the oil temp

Are u. Running over transom ?
If you are have a bung welded on feach header put a hose from your breathers to the bungs it should help cool oil down did it on my buddy it worked

Evac tubes off the headers to cool oil temps!?

Would have been better advice to throw a few ice cubes in the crank case before each run 😜🙊

That all it is advise not a pissing match I pretty sure you know what you are doing also you not here to step on any 1 toes what . What I suggest is advise we have Tryed it and it worked so but oil cooler is the best way to go not trying to hurt your sale just offering advise.

I 99% sure the solution to my
Problem is a small heat exchanger plumbed to the dump line. Should be enough to drop oil temp to where I want it

When you offer up advise, it has to be worthwhile...

If someone wants a faster boat, you dont offer advise like buy a better trailer.
You arnt hurting my sale, as you clearly indicate the the right way to cool oil temps is with an exchanger, not your initial evac deal

I'm not trying to stir the pot and I know I am going to take a beating over this, but...

A. I think your water temp is too high.

B. Installing a heat exchanger on the dump line will add a restriction and therefore increase block pressure.

I think much too much value is being placed on water temp and not on actual block temp or oil temp.

I've never seen my water temp over 140. 140 is idling after a good long cruise and the water soaking the heat out of the oil and block. After a few minutes it's back to 120.

The block pressure did go through my head but I feel like the water from the pump will cool the oil too much and take longer to get the oil warm

My theory is, what is the velocity of the water and how much heat energy is required to raise the temperature to 140 degrees F?

It's a lot of water so it must be a lot of energy.
