i too have a couple square nose superjets....what havasukona455 said is legit.  if you search long enough...you may find a square nose for about a grand.  701 is a good motor.  if you get a newer 701, like '96+ [62t] ( i think ), they'll make more power with mods (they have bigger intakes).  you can make a 650 run good....if someone has put in the time already, could be a good option.  factory B pipes are good for exhaust.  riva is as well.  new CDI...higher rev limiter.  single dual barrel carb if you can.  make sure you inspect the impeller, aftermarket or stock cast .  no knicks, bent blades.  look thru the intake.  speaking of....see if it has aftermarket intake grate.  scoop grates are best, loader grate require more ponies to benefit from.  umi quick steer is cool, same as finger trigger for throttle.  aluminum handle pole...with or without aftermarket pole spring-helps rider fatigue.  and an aftermarket ride plate...theyre longer and help keep nose planted....similar to a jet boat.

agreed!    both of my 701s are 61x.  one single carb, one single dual barrel carb.  single seems snappier (?), dual has more top end.

The ticket motor is a 62t bottom end with the larger intake and a 61x top end with the lower port timing to make the torques.

B pipes wake them up. Mine is stock and I run the shit out of my 701 square several times a week and who knows how many hours it has.. I run cheap oil and gas and it's never missed a beat. I've had two Kawasakis modded out and there was always a project with them. Seems like stock just works for me.

There is virtually no handling difference with a round nose.until you get into 2008 and newer. 1500 will yield a nice square nose. Figure 2k will get you semi clean with 701, B pipe, intake grate and impeller.

650s are good.  more than enough power for fun, especially if you're just getting started.  701 gives you just a bit more power everywhere. but still very "street-able", if you will....  crazy, to me....would be 800+cc, heavy porting, water injected exhaust(the kind you can adjust), high compression, 148mm pump(144 is stock) with magnum stator(what would be the bowl on a berk), larger nozzle, light lay up hull.  a ski like this....will make the tears run out from your eyes....may even give you arm pump from hanging on.  it may also be super touchy on take off.....like if someone pulls the carpet out from under you.....haha...

Wasnt expecting how hard it pulled. had no problem hitting 58-60mph, like right now.

but....this was expensive. far more than 2k.  stockers are good machines.  very simple to maintain.  also, if you see one for sale, without a trailer....dont be scared.  2 guys can easily load/unload these.  the wife an i have lifted ours many times.  or, i can make you some bunks that will fit in the bed of your truck....that would slide out and tilt to launch ski.
