74 hallett

Bought my first jet boat finally. Picked up from a guy at work. My buddys dad and grandpa were the original owners and built the motor so the boats stayed in the same neighborhood for 40 years.

Anyways its a 74 jetster i believe 19ft.
Motors built up with forged crank and pistons head work and porting 12:1 compression. Tunnel ram with two 450's. bassett ot headers. Thing should rip. old owner said he hit 72. Berkeley pump balanced and blueprinted hydraulic place diverter. Bought it with the motor pulled and its gunna need some lovin to get everything lookin new and workin good.

if you have never driven a jet, find someone who has , they handle much differently than a prop boat. enjoy....

Welcome, love to see another Hallett on here. Good looking boat but the first thing I would do is change out those fiberglass tanks before they ruin that fancy engine. I think most of us with Halletts have had to do it by now so don't wait till its too late. If you have any questions about that thing there are plenty of guys here that can help.

Yes I've already heard about the tanks I've already been calling around the local boat shops seen what they all have layin around. What are most people doing to mount the new aluminum tanks in the boat?

Great to see another Hallett on the site. And I agree with hauls balls about the tanks. I had to replace mine a few years back with alum ones. Anyways. Cool boat and keep us updated.

I had tabs welded on mine similar to how the fiberglass ones were glassed to the hull. I then glassed those tabs to the hull, easy as that! Like I said before, there are plenty of guys on here that all have skills and/or tools that they are willing to offer if you need help or have questions.

Oh that sounds simple enough. Ive done my fair share of fiberglass work doin the jetski thing for the past few years shouldnt be a problem. Just need to find some tanks now!

Hey guys have a question. The timing cover on the 455 it came with was fully i stalld bolts were just finger tight no gaskets so since i have a full gasket kit i put it on the other day. It was a PAIN IN THE ASS! The rubber strip on the bottom made it tought. Ended up trimming the wings off the ends and dropping the oil pan like an 1/8 inch and pounded it in with a mallet. I was worried the rubber strip and that whole area leaking so i splooged some rtv in there. Is this how it always goes or is there a different way thats all suppose to go togethor? Any help would be rad. Thanks!

There's a different way, it should go together with anything other than a 455!

The way I did mine was i put the timing cover on before the oil pan. The oil pan is the last thing to go on with the bottom end. The oil pan should fit pretty snug on the end seals tightening it evenly. I'm not understanding why you had to pound it in or why you are trimming things. Can you explain more?

Okay we'll the timing cover has the rubber strip on the bottom where it meets the oil pan and that keeps it from sliding in. It makes since that the oil pan would have to got on first. When I get it off the dolly and on the engine hoist ill prolly redo it all. Just worried that is gunna leak somewhere in that are when I put it togethor.

Dropped the motor in today and started sorting out some wiring and stuff. Found some cooling lines that need to be replaced. Also need a couple new an fittings. Where the cheapest place in so cal to get fittings and such?

Also does anyone know where I can find an alternator bracket for this 455? Searched google and there's a trillion different ones.
