Ok Einstein. You win; you also lost me but you are the winner. The point I was making is the rotation of the starter is important. I speak the language of a layman who does this for a hobby, not a living.

Layman's terms, how would the bendix throw on the threaded output shaft is it was rotating in reverse?
Answer; it simply won't.
The way the Bendix moves is the rotation of the shaft "screws" it forward. Also, the Bendix is a one way bearing assembly that would "free wheel" if rotating backward. So it would never drive even if the action of the Bendix is mechanical like a GM starter.
Not trying to be a wise guy. Just keeping the information as real and accurate as possible.
