« on: March 01, 2008, 01:03:21 PM »
Ok im trying to install these old gauges from the Omega with some angled bezels but i cant get it on right.......... wtf do you have to do to get it to connect again, the little plastic piece on the back of the gauge wont hook back on even when i ground out one side..........Do the newer gauges have longer terminals to make it fit better or what...... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

My gauges have a plastic mounting bracket on the back that mounts to where the wires mount to.. and they are 8 years old...i have seen some newer gauges with the mount seperate from the terminals. I think thats what i need............. :banghead:

I notched one side out cause of the angle

and its loose now it will almost pull out. I think i need a set that has a seperate mount, not combined like this one is ???

If i had one that had the metal bracket on the back like  i have seen before, i could just bend it and it would be just fine.

Or just improvise adapt and overcome - make new straps to hold them in.

I never said make metal ones! Metal ones will short the gauges out, they got to be made out of plastic!

I have to disagree.  I've got brand new, in the box still, Beede gauges and all of them have aluminum brackets for holding them to the dash.

Thanks for that pic , i was wondering what the back looked like ;D those will work perfect............ ;D I need gauges. Rods right about the brackets , they will short it out. Yours are just for mounting the gauge not wiring it ;)

And that will keep them from making contact and burning out the gauge, but without them on metal brackets.................Remember up in smoke ;D

So you think that was the only gauge ever made with metal brkts?

Nope but I've got 5 of them here and none of them have nylon insulators.  I was just pointing out that the brackets do not have to made of plastic.   So you think they all have to have an insulator?

The other bolt is a dummy or just a mounting bolt, nothing electrical connect to that side so it can't short out.  The other side is the ground.

I rest my case.   :D ;D :D ;D  I think most all the gauges used in the marine world now are pretty well insulated from shorts.  I remember the ones you have and it's because they mounted to a metal dash as well as both terminals being connection points.

Take a look at 2Sav's gauges, not your gauges, but 2Sav's...

and then tell me that a metal bracket for the back of his gauges will not present a problem.  :sly:

It all depends on what that one bolt on the right actually does, BUT since his are made of plastic, then I would say stay with that or buy new gauges.  I wanted the angled anodized bezels and went with new gauges just so everything was new and looked better.

I will say one thing, no matter which type of bracket you have the angled bezels are a bit of a challenge when it comes to mounting.  I guess that's why I'm going to cut a piece of plywood with the holes for each size gauge and then do the bracket modifications there before having to lay on my back and work under the dash.
