So am I right about the flexplate, the only reason for it to exist is to give the starter something to engage to? The farmall crank is sounding like a better Idea already if that is true. Been there done that so many times I have no problem pull starting an engine that could wrap me around it in a heartbeat. Just kidding, really. what  is everyones thought on front (bow) mounted batteries and tanks? Seems I have a lot of dead space up there, and since Tom has pretty much talked me into going Place Divertor on this money pit, ..................

Thanks, I was leaning towards the fluid dampner anyway, but a friend I used to drag race against has this hub from a 429 he was willing to donate. you know as well as I do that donated parts are priceless. But in thinking about it, the flywheel came into my lil brain. .......hmmmm got a starter, wtf is it gonna engage into?............ these little things can get you. How embarassing would that be not to be able to start the silly thing once you got it to the lake?  I think the hand crank from my dad's Farmall might be a handy addition to the fire extinguisher...............

OK, thanks for everything guys, now gonna go broke with the parts I'm buying and have already bought. Now things are taking a turn for the worse. Seems a buddy of mine lined me up with a 550hp 460. That's before I bolt on the tunnel Ram and stuff I already bought for this beast. Sounds like wet socks material and just what I need to turn this thing into the "Yellow Submarine"........... Now that I type that, the wife was a beatlemaniac.......Hmmmmm....... Anyway, this thing only has what I would call traditional motor mounts, coming off the mount pads to the stringers held in place by 2 bolts per side and the bell housing bolted to the jet. I'll post pics tomorrow. This concerns me. WTF am I in for? Have the jet out ready to ship to Tom for a checkup/rebuild, whatever it needs, but am I putting too much motor in this thing?

I want to thank you all, personally, for your input. You have no idea, or maybe some of you do, what it means. I plan on having this boat in the water this summer, and god willing, I'm not sure I even beleive in god anymore, but anyway, the kids will be skiing by july.

I have learned more in a couple of hours here than I could in several weeks in a library. For that I thank you. I am, more than likely, goping to ask more and more seemingly dumb questions as this thing progresses. One of which comes to mind immediately, what cam/intake combo works great on a 460 Ford???.

LOL actually, the name I have picked out, and lord knows why I find this funny, check U-Tube and Search "Peanut Butter Jelly Time". That is the boats name and purpose. That is the funniest thing I'ver seen on U-Tube in awhile. So, across it's transom top, I've already commissioned the girl to arbrush that on, lol

Actually, The yellow has some meaning. There was an instance where a friend of mine and I got in trouble with our wives over an inflatle teeter totter incident in my pool. Same color. Long story short, the yellow fits. Besides, how many bannana yellow boats do you see?

lol, yeah, seat frames and how they mount is one of the perplexing things I've been pondering since this thing arrived. Like I said, I'm going to be a moron for awhile. How do you mount seats in this thing anyway? LOL.

Ok, Here goes, new to the site and boat ownership in general. Wife recently passed away and I had promised her a Ski boat at some point. Anyway, I thought this might be something my kids and I (11 and 13) would enjoy building and using, so I bartered some stuff for it. What it is, a 1976 Saguaro that, for all intents and purposes, is not that bad. It had a blown engine that the former owner saw fit to trash the internals for, 460 ford. All that remains are all the hookups, block, intake, headers, and Mallory Unilite. Interior musta been trashed too because it's non-existent. Cables look like something on a 45 year old lawn mower and are obviously trash.

The good news it's a Berkeley Jet, 12JC I beleive (Kindof overstamped on the ID tag, but is a one piece bowl), and the boat, short of paint and some minor fiberglass repair (Mostly cosmetic) on the bottom by the transom. I figure a good once over upside down and topside, some time with a sander and some Duraglass, it can be painted to make a decent boat.

I'm not looking to race the thing. One death in the family per year is more than enough, however, can anyone help with what I should do/ not do as far as getting the pump gone through, and is it fine to use a truck 460 with a mild rebuild and possibly a mild cam/ intake/ carb to make as reliable a ski boat as possible? Is the Saguaro even worth messing with?

In reading all the posts, it seems everyone is into place diverters and blueprinting, etc. I am not interested in making the thing as fast as it can be. Or am I wasting my time on the Saguaro? Is it a decent hull or not and how can I tell if theres major issues with that?

I am not a complete idiot, my uncle had a Sidewinder and a Biesemeyer until recently when he retired and sold them. The Biesemeyer had a Blown 454 and was just plain scarey, but I am far from comfortable with some of this. He also had his jet "Blueprinted", and seaid something to me about having the pump housing/Bouwl interface machines for a BIG o-ring, which he had had done. I dunno. Any help??
