Cool project but it's not a 1968 Rogers. Maybe the pink has been changed through the years, could be a thousand reasons why it's registered, if it is, as a '68 but Roger didn't start on his own until 1970.

Mid to late 60's he was still working for his dad Ray Weiman, inventing with Dick Schuster the deep V jet boat, fighting with his dad, working for Richfield oil delivering oil in bulk, racing for Schuster, not speaking to his dad (a 20 year riff) and doing a stint in the Coast Guard. But he did not build a boat under the Rogers name until '70.

Doesn't really matter, as they're all gone now but I thought you'd like to know.

I'll check the actual pink. I'm just going off of what previous owners said. It has a HIN I believe. I'll check that too

not a whole lot of progress, because i spent all day Saturday picking up a "donor" boat out by Vegas. Ill grab some pics tonmorrow but this gives me a lot of the stuff to get the Rogers going. I was looking for a Jet and a member here had one that i was gonna pick up for 300, well i was heading to Vegas to pick up Holorinhal's gas tanks he had for sale and figured i would check Craigslist while i was out there and see if there were any deals on stuff i needed.

Well i found a sleekcraft for 400.00 that had a 455 and a berkeley JC pump. So i called the guy up and made an offer site unseen. Ended up checking it out Saturday and picking it up. And man did i get a hell of a deal. It has a JC pump, a jet-o-vator (with control), gas pedal, new steering cable. And this was just what i saw when i picked it up. Got home late yesterday afternoon and pulled a valve cover to see whatever i could. I can tell it has aftermarket retainers on the springs.

So fast forward to today, i must have ate something i shouldnt have because ive been sick most all of today. But i still drug my ass out of bed and decided i wanted to try to light the 455 off and see if it will run. Well i was using an extension with a socket to prime the oil pump and long story short, the extension fell into the motor. Well eff it and pulled the motor. (heavy bastard)

got the motor out and started tearing it down to see what i am working with. I still was not sure if i was going to use the motor or sell it. Pull the heads and find that its bored .030 over and the pistons appear to be Forged. The cylinders look brand new and still have all of the hash marks. Flip it over and it had a 12 quart milodon pan and tray. Pull the pan and it has a fully forged rotating assembly, i am not sure if the rods are stock since ive never pulled a 455 down. I still dont know what cam it has but ill be pulling it tomorrow after getting a balancer puller.

And it has these logs, im looking to trade these for some Headers (bassett style) If anyone is interested. They look to be like brand new

455 Olds? I Hope ya do some of the oil mods or that thing wont live long above 5000 RPMS.

Thanks, but it looks a lot better in pics that it does in person. Right after i sprayed the wind kicked up and put all kids of shit in the paint. Now i have to colorsand and buff it

Do you know about using a guide coat?
It helps while blocking, to see highs and lows.

Now that im off work at 4 and its daylight savings time. I can actually work on the boat after work

I came home and layed down a Red guide coat


Then i block sanded again with 220 grit wet


And filled a couple remaining spots

Keep it up man!

What are you using for paint, single stage, or base/clear?

Hi Hal,
For this one im just going to use single stage and then add clear over it when i get done with everything, since i plan to do somewhat of a color scheme.

Plus i already have the paint. To be honest though, it is industrial paint and pretty thick. ive sprayed one car with it, and one roll bar on a rhino it held up very well. Its called LIC-50

The clear will be so i can colorsand and flow over the lines from the paint designs.

Depends if going to seal it before you put down color. Also you can color sand and rub single stage paint.

Wouldn't hurt. Before you spry color scotch bright down then wipe with damp paper towel and follow with dry one the blue shop ones work best then tack rag I kinda know over kill for out side paint job but if you get a good day with no wind will work out good for you. Also wet down area. Have fun looks good!!!!
