Don't know if motor homes are different but spray lots of race cars that are fiber glass and carbon fiber and can go as fine as you want if have primer on it.

We use to 400 wet all primer before any color.single stage 2 stage steel fiberglass you name it that was the rule at the body shop I worked at in high school and that's how my dad still does it after 45 years of being a body man.my boss painted a Howard flat bottom 9 candy colors and six coats of sickens clear then wet sanded it to 1200 and buffed. that thing was so bad it was hard to look at in the sun it would make you blind it was so shiny and smooth it looked wet all the time.that was a fun job I got to do all the body work on the cars that didn't have any money in them and junk yard hunt.the only thing that sucked was wet sanding in the winter out Side it gets cool in yucca valley.

Yeah I used 400 for years I just found 320 was a little faster that's all but paint has to have a tooth to bite onto or you can have problems

It's looking good. Speed coat it's just a graphite paint you spray on the bottom. If you do flat black paint it does about the same thing.

I was thinking flat black because I already have some over spray and that would make a lot less work of color sanding and buffing. Should I just do where I "expect" the boat to ride?

Steve, Yes, you really only want it on the riding surface. Any thing else is really just a waste.

Here is how i did mine.

I start the spray about 1 and a half feet in front of the intake and to the end of boat.

We have orange!

First coat

Third coat. I'll color sand and buff this coat. Not to worried about orange peel. Just to get the bugs out

I'll redo the flat black when the orange is dry

Its lic50 paint. Just an industrial poly urethane single stage paint. Its cheap, thick, and lays down nicely. I've painted one car with it, and I learned about it from a friend that does semi trailers in it.

The color is just "safety orange". But I did a white base before covering with the orange. I really like it. When I do the top I'll clear it.

Anyone wanna lend a hand helping to flip it back over? Lol

Steve, that thing is looking awesome! I like that orange. Are you going to do any other colors with it?

I cut the holes in the transom and finnished up the exhaust, on the Spectra, today.
Just need to get a set of tips, and i will be all square.
