Did you run that with no water?

There is/was an impeller in the outdrive. Two seconds of running dry and they're gone. More than thirty seconds and it is lower water pump housing time......

water was turned on to the drive... you can see the hose in the first part of the video to the little clamp/earmuffs. it never came out the exhaust though as the motor and manifolds are empty from sitting/install. even with my jet drive or the neovane 755 it took a while before the exhaust sees any water.

im curious if the alpha pump will be enough to cool the motor or not... im gonna pull the water line from the "t" and put it into a bucket and see how much water the drive actually pumps.

The drive can support well over 400hp. The system is designed to literally bypass about 40% of the flow to keep the exhaust cooled.

The drives impeller needs to be changed annually, not that tough to do. Just revenger it has to be in forward gear to put it together correctly.

unfortunately i dont have any updates. a couple weeks ago i went off to cancun for vacation and then this week ive been working on turning our office into a baby room...

kinda what the wife wants...

i look at it this way, the sooner i can get baby room out of the way i can get back to boat progress! hah.

thanks! just learning as i go with this. SOOOO many angled cuts with the trim.

almost done! got a couple boo boo spots and gotta caulk the corner seams and it should be ready to pull all the tape off and go back to working on the boat.

from a guy on offshoreonly.com that seems to be the only place where they pop up from time to time. there is a guy on craigslist in florida that has a pair on the back of a junk boat.

those dana tabs sure are pretty! I ran into a tough spot when the wife demanded that I put a swim step on the boat. I personally hate them. So we reached a compromise when I showed her these rather than a step with a little foldy down ladder. They'll be dual purpose.

At least thats how I convinced her.

stripping them down to bare aluminum... they had some remnants of the original powdercoat and then some rustoleum paint that i dont think ever dried. the box they were shipped in REEEEKED of paint fumes... so took some aircraft stripper and a quick wire wheel and it comes right off. be careful with this stuff if you get it on your skin it will BURN like hell.

That aircraft stripper works great!
Those trim tabs are huge! that should help that thing get going. Keep up the great work bud!

the next step is get featured on craftsman's facebook while grinding off powdercoating...

once thats done, nice and clean. final wipe with acetone and we're ready for primer!

first coat of many of zinc chromate. anytime you paint bare aluminum you need to primer with ZC. its the only way paint actually sticks to it. regular etching primer sucks.

of course zinc chromate primer is offered in a variety of colors. like puke green and bring ass ugly yellow. i opted for the lesser of two evils...
