newbie here. Great forum by the way. I have been looking for something like this site when I started thinking I might buy another boat "someday".. But I digress..
I have a chance to trade out a vintage race bike for a Biesmeyer 21 ft. cruiser  with a zero hour , blueprinted 455 olds, w/berkeley pump  AA impeller, nice clean Tandem axle trailer, new Bimini Top and mooring cover.  My question is- is this a good first jet boat? Its been years since I had a boat (the 70's to be exact) and my wifey is saying it looks like fun. Especially when I see your website and the get togethers you all have.  If the deal is done, I plan to use it for the several local lakes (Roosevelt, Canyon mainly) and hope to make the river and powell some day. Its just my wife and I (and our rottie Loretta) so space isnt that big a deal, but it looks like it has lotsa room anyways. 

Any thoughts on is this a good fit? The guy is second owner, best friend owned it prior for 17 years) the guy takes good care of his stuff.  Being an old prop guy (at best) what should I be asking? what should I be looking for? The dang thing looks clean as a whistle to me. My plan is to get a test ride and look for leaks of anykind a generate a list of gotchas (like the missing pitot tube for the speedo).

wow, thanks! I sure could use some more experienced help checking her out. I know bikes pretty much, but jet boats zero experience (outside of throwing up over the transom of a few in high school at saguaro lake).   I plan to go saturday around noon and the current owner is willing to go to take a run on it (pleasant) and show me how everything works.  The one I am looking at is on craigslist, all white hull, listed at $3900. Is the the one you know about? or is there a better deal out there for this hull/motor? The Beismeyer cruiser appeals to me as a good hull for what I want to do and the cariety of consitions I may encounter crusiing. Current owner says trimmed she will g0 60+.  Without GPS who knows, I just want the ride.

I was looking around for a list of what to look out for when checking out a boat for purchase. Any ideas? Anything special to this model or engine?  (thanks for the floor damage idea). It has redone captains chairs and the wood was replaced in the back bench as well.

went and looked at the beiser. Mechanically it looks well cared for, and the motor is indeed fresh. Overall mechanically (and electrically I climbed under the dash and prodded around the wiring loombs etc) the boat looks sound. Visibly the boat is pretty "used" looking. The gel coat is gone, thoroughly oxidized (owner says he has sanded it back three times already, original gel coat) and the front deck  rail is removed and the holes filled with sealer (you can still make out the old mounting places- not blended or painted over). The upholstory is all faded and stiff, and the rear engine cover deck is yellowed and cracking. The carpet is servicable.  Current owners says it isnt pretty but everything works and has been maintained. So If I hear and read  correctly elsewhere here a simple paint job will cost anywheres of $800 on up. Simple durable Upholstory another $800 (two captain chairs, rear bench and deck cover). So for my base of $3500 plus the makeover I would have about $5500 (incidentals). Is that really a good deal in your opinion? or shoudl I take my theoretical $5k and put iit down on something someone alse already has everythikng p[retty much "done"?  I know a boat is never done, as its like my race bikes (never fast enough, never enough suspecsion work, need that billet whatever...).

I think you are underestimating the paint by half, not to mention the labor and time of pulling everything apart.  If it was me I would look elsewhere but I know many folks here would feel differently.    The Beezer name does carry a certain cachet but I don't know what that is worth to you.
Obviously any guy who parts with a CZ has questionable smarts.                 Sorry I had to . . .

LMFAO !!!        You posted that pic 25 minutes ago and I'm the first one to look at it.    That is classic Czech engineering there, right down to the rubber band return aid on the brakes.  Gotta luv it.    I so would have wanted to be in the room when the engineer tells the production manager, "Yeah we are gonna hold the petrol tank on with a leather belt"            Thanks for posting.

Cool, there are quite a few boats in the Phoenix area on craigs right now. You can get a lot for your budget! Beat the guy down as much as you can, and dont be afraid to walk away. Theres a lot out there!
