 Well I'm back on this thing. 

 Billy / ironman had some extra time today so I gladly took care of that by putting his welding skills to work.    That will teach him to have a day with nothing to do. 

 We tackled one of the trailer issues.  Its was a bit to long to fit in the garage when theres a pump in the boat, and I didnt want to cut a hole in the dinning room wall. So I dragged it over to Billy's house this AM.


 And we remover a bit of length from the trailer.



 He went to work cutting some parts to fix the problem, while I supervised to make sure he didnt slack off. 


 Once everything was cut out and ground down to shape he slipped the new pieces in place and tacked the on.



 After that, there was alot of welding to be done.  So I went back into supervisor mode while he welded.





 Here it is, all welded together, and it works.



 After I got home, I cleaned it up a bit and shot some rattle can white on it so it wont rust for now.  I'll do a better job with the paint when the boat comes off the trailer for its bottom work, there are a few other issues with the trailer that need some help too and that will be a good time to handle those too.




 Now it'll fit in the garage without any issues (even with a pump in the boat), and the tongue is longer so when I turn a sharp corner the boat doesnt try to stick one of the forks into my tail lights.

 I had some spare time tonight, waiting for the bathroom tile to setup.    

 So what else is there to do when you have a bunch of parts sitting around and a night with nothing to do.    You mock something up to motivate yourself to finish the damn bathrooms so you can work on your boat, right ?  

 

 

 I NEED to finish these STUPID house projects !!!!!!  I want to work on my boat !!!!

 Yea  Yea, I dont see any progress pics of yours either.   

 I did stop by the machine shop on my way home from work and my motor has a place in line now.  Just going to do some block clean up before it goes. 

 BTW,  there has been an official change of plans for power, the blower motor will be saved for a different project.  Still no E85 available around here, so I'm going to wait and see what happens with that. 
Coming soon, the rebirth of the "MIGHTY BBF" , and its going to be a big boy this time.   

 Just a quick update.

 I finally figured out where I wanted the intake to be so I could fill in the rest of the old intake opening.

 

 Couldnt stand the HUGE, crooked, sloppy, hole in the transom for the old pump, so I had to "fix" that too.

 

 Fits much better now.

 

 Also did some blending inside the pump.     Intake to suction housing now fits perfect.

 

 

 Didnt like the huge gap around the clean out cover though,  So had to "fix" that too.     Fits perfect now and is still removable.

 

 

 Also drilled a tapped the housing for the pressure taps.

 

 

 Progress should move along a bit faster now that its on a dolly.  I can move it around alot easier now.

 

 

 
 

I've been neglecting this thread, sorry. 

 I have been working on it.  But it has been fighting back every chance it gets.   

 I went to fill the old holes in the stringers and ran straight into a nightmare.  Even though they looked good, and sounded good when you tapped on them.  The glass was not bonded to the wood anymore.   I got mad a did a quick cut along the bottom edges and all he glass lifted right off like a taco shell.     One side came off complete in a 12' length.


  Then I smacked on the stringers with a hammer, and they fell over.  Heres all the glass of the stringers, and the stringers.   


 So I started stripping the tops of the tunnels down to wood so I could set new stringers in there. 



 I got all the way done with one side and about 3/4 done with the other when I found another issue.  Part of the plywood was separating.   There was a split under where the stringer was and the glass was ripping the top layer of wood off the ply. 
 So as of today,  ALL the plywood has been removed from the hull.  It is a bare fiberglass shell now except for 2 gunnel supports, and the section on the under side of the deck, but that is coming out too.


 You can see the pile of old plywood on the ground next to the boat here. 


 The good news is, I dont think theres anywhere on this thing where any more issues can be hiding.     And I will get to learn a lot of new skills, like laminating a core back into a floor, and setting stringers, and glassing over new stringers, and flow coating, etc, etc, etc. 

 This is going to be a LONG, EXPENSIVE project.

 Nope, sure wasn't expecting this.     If I had known it was going to be this bad, I probably would have chopped it up.  But I'm this far into it, and it cant get much worse now.  Theres not much left of it.    Besides, How hard can it be ? 

 The updates should start coming sooner now.  Its almost time to start putting things back together. 

How did you modify the cleanout plug so it fit so well?

Is it still removeable?

When I was overhauling my boat, I had second thoughts about finishing it too.

It seemed like everytime I turned around another problem would surface.

Keep at it and you will have a new boat when you are done.

 Actually that was a pain in the azz.  But yea its still removable.  Inside the housing there is an alignment bump on one side (so you dont put the cover in backwards  ) . That had to be removed, I ground it off so the opening was completely round to start.  Then I roughed up the sides of the cover and drilled about 8 small holes in the bottom sides and taped in some brass rods so it looked a bit like a porcupine.  I cut the rods so they where about a 1/8" from the walls of the housing when the cover was in place.  The idea of the rods was to hold the epoxy in place if it ever came loose from the cover and tried to fall into the pump.  Then I wrapped the sides of the housing with aluminum foil,  bolted the cover in place,  and filled the void with epoxy.  Once it was setup it slid right out.  It took ALOT of sanding and filling to get it right, but it got there.   

 Later I discovered that I could have bought a cover like that (tight fitting).  Tom a JetBoatPerformance had them in stock.    Live and learn.
