Fixing the hole

Since I am stuck in a place that I can't boat year round I decided to make the best of it and start a new project. My last season ended with a drunk guy ramming into me when he tried to see if I needed help. Coil burnt out and I was drifting,

Took off the rub rail and cleaned the area a bit.

Next The carpet had to be pulled out and the gas tank removed.

Then I cleaned the inside up to prep for the new glass. My idea is... After it get cleaned real well with acetone I am going to lay some mat in strips across the inside. Then I will fill the hole from the outside with chopped up mat followed by a couple layers of cloth. Then sand and prime/paint. Will this work, or is there a better way?

Yeah, when I pulled the bowl off ( different simultaneous project) Plenty of paint chips came off.

Well this is getting close to being done...

but of course I had to fix a 2-3' section on the bow that was separating

from the hull

1st I cut out the bad area

and sanded the area down

Then I cleaned it several times with acetone and layed some mat inside

Next, after that set up, I pulled a bunch of fibers from the mat and filled the hole from the outside and started the sanding.

Funny how I start thinking I am going to do one project and then get motivated to expand that project, followed by the insight to do even more since I have already started the last step...

So I pulled off the entire rub rail

I decided to go ahead and RE-cap the thing. As I got into it it seems that this boat had been "capped" before... Except they used bondo to fill and shape it. Of course it cracked in several places. I cut out about a 1/4" groove around the entire thing then shaped the hole to a "V" . And no, I didn't use a jigsaw on it

Next I filled the hole with a strip of mat and then filled with chopped mat and resin. I decided not to go as far out as Jrork did on his fine job due to the thickness of the inside layers.

I more round of sanding and I will glaze the pinholes with Bondo.

I left the through transom exhaust holes for now as I have not gotten to run the lakes up here yet and don't know how they will be with OT headers.

Getting closer... However does anyone have the ultimate cure for my pinhole blues? I filled with bondo, then primer filler, wet sanded and dropped a couple coats on.

but as you can see there are lots of pinholes showing through

Just in the glassed areas though

Also prepping for the new pump. I am having a delima however, My old bowl has a stuffer and quite worn veins inside. New bowl is very clean but...

I cannot get the stuffer off the old bowl. I broke several drill bits, some are now in the holes and the SOB will not come out

Guess I will see how it reacts without the stuffer and go from there

spot putty and use a razor blade to apply it if your good you wont have to sand it very much.

I have now elected to fix the bottom too. I am hooking up the pump so I can try and flip this thing now.

Couple coats of primer/surfacer, block sand, spot putty, primer sand and paint

Does the transom adapter need to be installed for support when flipping the boat via the pump?
