Yup, 15 teeth on both. Leave it to me to find something like this! I guess I'm just gonna hafta see which one fits after I prime it this afternoon. Kinda scarey though if you ask me.

Yeah, tis what I planned. Only 1 roll pin. But gotta try the bigger gear and see if it will even go in first. If it goes in, it's the one!Planned to run the comp 9000 so a switch would be needed. Just wanted to know if anyone else ever saw this on BBF engines before. 1 is a Harmin marine 460 from 1976 and the other is whoever Sleekcraft used in 1978.

OK, got the goodies Tom sent in the boat. Hadda get a few more things, and a tap to tap out the intake for the header water line. But I think I'm plumbed! (I stress the THINK). Wiring is another matter I don't even want to get into. Gonna be a longer process than I thought on that. Maybe I can get that resolved tomorrow morning. But, and maybe Tom or 2Sav will chime in here, the Pressure releif valve Tom sent was backed all the way out. Can't really read the markings and graduations on it, but it's supposed to be 15-175 psi or something. All the way out means 15? And should I run another ball valve on the o/b dump from the Tstat housing? Also, should I, and where do you get, a water pressure guage? Have room on the Tstat cover for one if needed.

Wanted to start it on the hose today, but my Oil didn't show. (Ordered Joe Gibbs BR oil for Sunday, then HR oil for after that)

no the smaller gear...once again im thinking either one would probably work...why would a bbf gear not work anywhere from a 351 cleveland to 429/460 are interchangeable...i beleive the fe blocks are different, but if it came out of a 460 why wouldnt it work on another...unless there is some "special cam" out there

Ray,

The plumbing thing aint that hard, judging from all the other things have got done thus far it should be a cake walk for you. I just did mine for my 460 a couple weeks ago, just keep in mind, it is a much more simple design than you would think.

In answer to your question though, YES run a ball valve on your overboard dump line. Reason being: if you 'choke' your water inlet line to your motor to build temp (pretty normal thing to do right?) and you dont have a ball valve on your dump line your headers will starve for water because the now lower amount of water running through your motor is going out your dumpline....SO, if had a ball valve on your dump line you could 'choke' that and put more water back into your headers.

Does that even make sense? I swear it does to me. Maybe I'm losing it....either way, you'll get it, but the ball valve on the dump line is a must. My $.02 is in now...

No, It makes sense Nick. Kinda what I was thinking anyway. I tend to over analyze...... go figure after my last thread on the subject................ the physics of it all. Example, given what I have, I used the O/B dump from the bilge pump for the pressure valve outlet. Then drilled the new one in next to it, and y-ed in the bilge pump and regular o/b dump. I'm thinking I may well pump water back through the bilge pump, lol. Need to drill another o/b dump to make me happy I guess.  Got too much money invested in this to trash the engine. (And NOW I bought a truck to haul the damn thing!)

Hopefully, yes. But really, if the big gear won't drop in, then the little gear is the answer, no? If it does, well then, I need to change out the gears. I only brought it up because it struck me as very STRANGE! :screwy:

Never heard of this on anything before. Maybe Nostradamus was right????? :sly:

Given the same number of teeth, yes, but the diameter is my concern.  The Dizzy has to mesh with the cam gear, no? If the diameter is too small, no meshy, since it's a solid rotating piece held in a concentric circle by two points. As is the cam , held in a concentric circle by 5 points.  SAvvy my quagmire on this? ???

I know how to solve it, for me, just was wondering if anyone had seen it before. Might be one of those trhings to tuck away, might be important someday.

Ray your plumbing "looks" ok to me but I have a couple questions, call me (I'm on the road this am ) re the Dizzy I'll check with Josh and get back to you ! didn't notice is this a roller or flat tappet cam deal ? Tom
Btw the pressure reg is between 12 and 15 psi all the way out , thats where i would leave it to start ' also I agree that a "dump line" needs a lever ball to create "resistance" to water flow , not always needed but usefull under some circumstances Tom

It's a flat tappet 305 Degree deal Tom. Crane Roller Roockers, though. I'm pretty sure I got the oil figured out, after a couple emails to Joe Gibbs Racing.

I'll call you a lil later Tom. On my way out the door to pick up my new truck ;D Well, new to me anyway. Will be nice to have something that can haul this cow. Shoulda seen me chaining that thing to a Grand Prix to get her in the garage! My neighbors went through a 12 pack watching that! What a Utube moment! But it WORKED! I feel like McGyver sometimes I swear.

Oh the pictures I have yet to post...........................
