If it has an HID # you should be able to register it normally, like a trailer, once a boat always a boat.

Sometimes provisional registration (like what you do with a retired race hull that has a DMV issued HID)
is the way to go, you can call it what ever you want because it does not exist in the files of the DMV.

I was looking at a boat on Craigslist and it said "no paperwork" so I called DMV (California) and the idiot I talked to said that if there was nothing on file and only a bill of sale that it couldn't be registered in CA.  Go figure that one out.     I asked about the HIN and was still told that they wouldn't register it.  Maybe it was just the idiot I talked to but it looks to me like they are just shooting themselves in the foot and loosing TAXES if they don't allow a vessel to be registered or re-registered.  I think if you register it as HOMEMADE, they only tax you on the materials cost. 

You may be right on that point.  That could be a painful and costly process.

i just punched the craigslist lines on the first post and it was there=i will take more=boat is off the trailer now=will be lowering the bunks and changing the trailer too a tandem axle setup then repaint it
