So is there something inside the train you have to set up to listen to remote?  How do you control more than one train? .....in a day,not at a time...

Yes there is a control box you have to setup inside the Locomotive to put it into remote mode. There are certain Locos that are built for RC operations. Each crew uses a set of two Locos per shift to move and build trains in a yard. After a train is fully built road Locos are put on in place of the RCs and sent off to the next yard.

what locos do you use for remote switching? (sorry for the third degree, ive been into model railroading since i was a kid, rail yard ops interests me)

Typically EMD locomotives which are made by General Motors. We also use new Gensets which are new and have three caterpillar engines in them. The pairs usually look like these.
