Are you talking about the accelerator pumps?
I know my local O'rielly's has them, as well Star Auto parts.  If you haven't yet, maybe check with the local auto parts chain stores.

For a boat and trailer that have rolled and flipped off the side of the road, I'd say it's in pretty good shape.   :)

I thought I might be able to salvage this one but I'm just going to make a new one. Should be welding up the bow eye today if my gimpy neighbor brings the tig down.

So I don't know if I am actually making progress forward or backward.  I haven't started putting anything back together, I have only taken things apart.

Anyway, the bulkheads between the stringers have been bothering me.  The resin that they were coated with has cracked and there is some rot around the drain holes.  More importantly, they are in the way of my glassing in the intake opening for my setback and reinforcing the surrounding area.

I was going to do this old-school and grind them out with my 4" grinder, but how could I pass up an opportunity to buy a new power tool?  After a little research and debate, I opted for the Dremel Multi-Max 4.0 amp MM45.

I didn't have much hope for the longevity of the blades cutting through fiberglass.  Dremel has a pretty good assortment of tools and I was told there was an adapter that allowed the use of other brands, however the tool-less Quick-Lock system is not compatible with the currently available adapters.  After digging through all of the Dremel tools, not expecting any to last very long, I decided to try a 1/16" semi-circular abrasive blade for removing grout, MM501, and a somewhat narrow straight carbide cutting blade, MM485.

I was so impressed with this tool.  The precision of this tool allowed me to cut between the wood of the bulkheads and the fiberglass hull.  I was able to remove the bulkheads intact, I will be able to use them as a template for the new bulkheads.  Cutting was very quick and wear on the blades was minimal or even indistinguishable.  The carbide blade, MM485, didn't show any wear on the cutting edge, however the TiN coating disappeared immediately.

Dust was surprisingly minimal.  I would have felt comfortable performing this work inside my shop without worrying about contaminating everything with fiberglass dust.  Even though the cuts were pretty clean, it was still necessary to grind the hull and stringers where the bulkheads were tabbed in.

The performance of this tool was so impressive, it almost makes me want to redo the floor, stringers, and transom.  Almost!

How long did it take to go thru the material?

Say compared to a Sawzall. ...

Just a few minutes for cutting both bulkheads.  I'm sure, with the right Sawzall blade, it would be short work.  The Multi-Max is smaller and fit inside the small storage space. The blade only rotates 3.2-degrees and was easily controlled cutting blind with only one hand.  I made a series of plunge cuts with the MM501 grout tool first.  Each cut only took a few seconds until it was all the way through, even when cutting through wood.

I used the carbide MM485 to get to the sharp corners.  It cut through the fiberglass quickly, however it was slow cutting through the wood because of the fine tooth pitch.  Also, I found that I missed a few spots cutting with the semi-circular MM501, and the MM485 has a greater depth of cut.

I elected to not use my Sawzall because I wanted to make a precise straight cut between the bulkheads and the stringers / hull.  The Sawzall blade would be forced to curve to make the cut and would be difficult in the corners.  I didn't want to gouge into the surrounding glass, or worse yet, punch through the hull / stringers.  The Multi-Max allows much greater precision.

Totally agree about he control aspect.

Tho I did have good control with the Sawzall. With like  12 or 15 in blade. Made curving easy with less pressure. Also with long enough blade you can see the tip on other side of bulkhead. ..Presuming other side is visible.  It's definitely not perfect. At times, part closer to tool is more accurate than the tip.   I didn't experience any real gouging...that wasn't my own doing.  Screwup...if you will.

Tried to clean up some of the scratches that the boat got during the recovery after the accident. 1000, 1500, and 2000 grit wet sand. Will hit it with some polish to clean it up more. Should be on par with the rest of the boat.
