Has anyone used the composite lumber for trailer bunks?

Trex and other composite have a tendency to sag if they are not supported every 16 - 24 inches. I used treated lumber on mine.

I was thinking that maybe a back bone to the composites would work.

Sounds like to much work. Treated lumber will last longer than the carpet will and that comp. stuff is pricy.

Even untreated lumber will probably outlive your ownership of the boat.

i just get some cheapy stuff from the depot and coat it with some weather sealer.

Just a follow up question, I just picked up a new (to me) trailer that the bunks have been removed so now I need to know what is the bast way to mount new bunks and where do you place them?

Hey Greg when I replaced the bunks on my trailer, I replaced the rusted out lag screws and washers with stainless lag screws and washers. As for placement on the trailer, was easy for me I just put em back where the old ones where, so Im not much help there :-\ But the stainless lag screws I put on 4 years ago still look like new and no movement with the bunks at all      Mark

Thanks for the reply.  This trailer was set up for a "V" drive and I'm putting a jet on it.  I plan on doing some work to it before I put the boat on it.  Just wanted some ideas as to where the bunks need to be placed.  I guess at the first set of strakes, under the stringers and then just out side the second set of strakes.

Greg, I through bolted mine with carriage bolts, counter sunk the heads. Layed it all out drilled and installed the bunks. Then removed and carpeted over the carriage bolts. Here are a couple of pics.

Now that is one sweet looking trailer.  I can see I've got some work cut out for me as I don't even have the risers that the bunks bolt to.  Where did you get the lights?  I also need new fenders.  Chrome would look nice.  I just noticed the small caster type rollers on the tail end.  That's a great idea as well.

 JW, the color is House of Colors - Tangelo, unfortunetly I jumped the gun and had the trailer painted before the hull was done being gelcoated. The boat turn out to be different than what was expected.

Greg, the lights came from Dana but I would call Tom to see if he carries that style first.
Shortly after that pic. was taken I got some stainless fenders, ouch they were expensive.
Casters can help save that rear cross member from getting drug.

I've got a good source for the lights.  I haven't been able to find SS fenders and I've only got a single axle trailer.

I went to a trailer manufacturer and they carried the SS fenders, but sent them out to get polished.

Ron is right about the SS fenders I went lookin for some simply because they can be repolished .
I was told 1K for the dual axle fenders .
You get what you pay for though .

I guess for the time being I'll stick to steel and paint them.  I still need to place and weld in new bunks.
