I have a BBC 454 I was wondering what electric fuel pump I should go with. I was thinking the Holley red or blue?

Well,  I personally don't like either. Lol

If funds permit,  look at Aeromotive.

But if a choice had to be made,  Holley Blue and a pressure regulator.

What's wrong with the Holley fuel pumps? I have been running a Holley blue for 5 years with no problems

Stay away from the Holley pumps, they are junk. Aeromotive makes a nice internally regulated pump that runs a constant 7psi. That would probably work great for that 454

I will look it to that today. I had a Holley blue in my last boat and it only lasted 3 months.

the Aeromotive SS pumps are very nice, but if i can make a recommendation. Get a pre-filter.

The impeller in the Aeromotive SS pump is plastic, and i have personally broken two of them

The red one in the bottom of the pic is an aeromotive one

Holley HP150 with pre and post filters, Regulated to 7psi, feeding 2x4  4150's Zero problems....

150 micron with a magnet of you can find one. I think Raycor makes one that is also a water separator.

IMHO, a lot different. The particulate tolerances are much greater in a mechanical pump simply because of how they work.

A mechanical diaphragm pump can almost pump mud. The limiting factor is the check, or gulp valves inside it separating the chambers. Once they get fouled, they get weaker and weaker until they hang partially open.

An electric typically has very tight mechanical tolerances and the smallest bit of hard material can lock then up solid.

Really depends on the set up as far as which pump.

Holley carburetors should be getting a constant 6.5psi.

I have this guy going into the Jet boat.

900 cfm on a 496.
