Hey guys! im new to the site but ive been looking around it for the past few months and checking out the videos. i just picked up my first boat and am excited to have a project. its an 82 eliminator sprint less motor and seems to be in decent shape. it has a berkeley jg pump (split bowl i believe) that is set back 3 1/2" and just the standard nozzle, it also came with a semi pro open center loader. id like to pick up a droop snoot and hydraulic place diverter for it. the pump is complete parts wise but not together so any advice on where i can get the pump put back together or who can show me because i have no experience with them and want it done right. the hull is in ok shape, theres a couple stress cracks on the bow and it could definitely use a good buff but im thinking about having a buddy of mine paint it and help me freshen up the supports and little fiberglass stuff inside. i got some parts with the boat like motor mounts for a bbc, an alternator, starter, rewarder headers, gas pedal and a few other misc parts. as far as a motor goes i think im going to find a 2-3k dollar donor boat with a complete 454 or bigger and using what ever i can from it and sell whats left over. i just got the boat about a week ago so first on the agenda is getting the pump back together and the hole around the pump taken care of, the guy i got it from had some 1/4" aluminum he cut out for it but it will block off the clean out and im not sure if thats a good idea or not. any advice, tips constructive criticism or help would be greatly appreciated. my goal is to have it ready for next summer and get it on the river and meet some of you guys!

nice project. Welcome to SCJB. I would agree with JustElectric and the pump brace idea. I never put one in my Daytona and it is a super light lay up. The pump is also set back and I can see where the bottom of the boat is starting to crack a little bit.

that's it. It doesn't need to get that fancy around the bottom of the intake though. If you are going to move your motor forward, putting the brace on the front intake bolts is the best spot ( there is more leverage there) but your intake bolts need to be long enough. They are installed from the bottom. If they are already to short, don't take them out, just run a brace like you have pictured

Looks like your Sprint has the narrow stringers---1x instead of 2x  material-- That is pretty rare. I suspect the pump setback may be factory as the only other narrow-stringer Sprint I know of also had a factory setback. That boat is owned by Jim DeBoard who posts as Howler439 over on Performance Boats. You might want to contact him and compare notes.

Could we get a pick of the transom just below the pump as well as a shot of the bottom going forward from transom.

i agree I tried to get ahold of jim his sprint hauls the mail I wanted to pick his brain a little but all I got is his pump was set back 3 inches and that was it

Take some pics of your suction housing from under the boat and loader grate quorums to see the set up on it. These boats don't like that much hardware thrown at em and you can get them to run fairly dry with some easy mods. I got mine pretty close to where I want it to ride at the big end just need to ad some more hp to my equation.

Good deal. Like i said this is my first boat, so if you see anything that doesnt look right dont be afraid to point it out. But the more you guys like it the better i feel about it cauz this is the way i got it. Probably gonna start in on it next week.

Be sure you have someone  knowledgable look at the loader before you run it.  It will more than likely need to be cut down for the boat to run and shut down correctly. Ask me how I know. ha ha...

Well I'm gonna pipe in as a fellow sprint owner and say don't paint it. I bought my boat complete but gel was in very similar condition, do some research and try to wet sand/polish it, original is always better if feasible. I spent three weeks wet sanding/polishing mine and gonna cap it this winter, gotta keep up with the joneses or at least JE:). It's an awesome hull and will haul a$$ with a decent mill

I'm lookin at your pics on my phone so not very detailed, but looks like an original gel but who knows I guess.  Look at my build thread in the projects section and then you can see what I had to do, 7 solid months of hard work but it's worth it.  The first season you'll chase the fine tuning stuff as I have done but it's a labor of love👍

Yeah i think ill cut and buff it like you guys are saying and see how it turns out before i throw and money at paint. Im gonna start on the jet next week and get that together, i also have a ride plate for it but i have to drill tap the bowl to install it, and then get the aluminum work around the pump done and get a pump brace made. There will be plenty of progress pics. I also noticed the boat has a boost gauge so someone had a blower motor in it at one point. I wish i could put another one in it but as of right now i dont have an extra 10-15k lying around to buy a motor. And the boat is incredibly light from what i can tell, what is the spider package you guys are talking about? does your boat have it and do you have any pics?
